Acai berries are a very popular fruit from Brazil and the South American regions, harvested from the Acai berry palm trees in the Amazon rain forest; they do not travel well in their natural state but are usually frozen or juiced for transport. Acai berries come from the family of blue and purple fruits like the cranberry and blueberry. Anthocyanins are the substance which gives the color to all the red, purple and blue plants on that color spectrum which is why blueberries are also promoted for their health benefiting properties.

They are being praised by many for their very high levels of amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. In the rainforest some tribes diets are said to contain 42% of their intake from acai berries, believed to improve health and promote anti aging.

Are there any side effects from taking acai berries? There are very little side effect reported but some people may be allergic just as some people are allergic to any fruit i.e. strawberries,

raspberries or cranberries to name a few.

There no know interaction with any medications but you should always consult a doctor if you start to take any kind of supplement whilst you are on any medication.

Acai berries are just a fruit all be it one with large amounts of nutrients which are good for you. Be aware that you are getting a good content of Acai berries in your product as some products have other ingredients in them which reduces the percentage of Acai berries in the juice.

As with any fruit, taking any fruit or vegetable in excess can change your bowel pattern and cause mild diarrhea. It is advised to take any supplement in moderation and follow any instructions on minimum and maximum dosage. Acai berries should always be used as supplement to a balanced diet and not an alternative to it.
